Scott Downing - Teacher of the Year

March 25th 2010 - ![]() Established 1986 The Teacher of the Year Award bestows special recognition on a PGA golf professional who has performed outstanding service as a golf instructor. Criteria to be considered are: overall performance as a golf professional at his/her facility, service to his/her Section and the Association, leadership ability, image and ability to inspire fellow professionals, use of teaching aids and the ability to illustrate their effectiveness, involvement in junior golf activities at the facility and in the community, techniques for teaching small and large groups, articles written for publication in books and magazines. 2010 WinnerScott Downing - The Legends of Indiana Scott Downing helps better the game of over 1500 students a year by instructing year-round and assisting with the Indiana Golf Foundation’s programs at the Gongaware Academy. A unique teaching opportunity he and his wife provide on Friday nights is a family program that allows children and parents to learn alongside each other before playing a scramble on a par-3 course. In 2009 at the Fall Meeting, Downing educated his fellow Professionals with a class on teaching with technology, and has incorporated TPI fitness, TOMI putting analysis, and JCVideo systems into his lessons. PGA Magazine, Indy Men’s Magazine, The Indianapolis Star, and Disney Golf publications have all featured articles written by him, and he is in the process of authoring his first book on golf instruction.
