Our History
The Legends Golf Club of Indiana was the vision of five business partners, including former Indiana University men’s basketball coach Bob Knight.
Ted Bishop, the 38th President of the PGA and General Manager of The Legends, led the startup and oversaw construction of the course, designed by famed golf architect Jim Fazio. It has been listed as high as sixth among public and private courses in Indiana.
The Legends also is home to the Indiana Golf Association/Indiana PGA, which houses the Indiana Golf Academy and Indiana Golf Hall of Fame. The readers of “The Indiana Business Magazine” previously selected The Legends as “Indiana’s Best Course”.
While the course is playable for golfers of all levels, it has hosted many championship events, including:
- The Indiana’s Men’s and Women’s State Amateur Championships
- The Indiana PGA Championship
- USGA Qualifiers
- The Indiana High School Athletic Association Boys and Girls State Finals
- The Indianapolis Women’s City Championship
Over the years, The Legends added an 18-hole Par 3 Dye course, an updated Clubhouse, a Banquet Hall and swimming facilities for members and the public.
The Legends’ focus on family is apparent as Bishop’s daughter Ashely Davidson – a renown high school and collegiate player – and her husband Ted Davidson also operate the business.
The Legends’ commitment to the game of golf is unparalleled. Bishop served many positions in the state and national PGA – culminating with being named the 38th President of the PGA.
The Legends’ family also is involved in their community. Their annual Pay It Forward Johnson County golf outing has raised more than $200,000 for local charities.
